Topic: Project Fusion: Scalable Education Strategies for Epic Consolidations

When thousands of users need to change workflows at once, education has to work differently. During Emplify Health’s Bellin–Gundersen Project Fusion, the Gundersen and Bellin education and informatics teams prepared more than 10,000 clinicians and staff for an Epic-to-Epic consolidation without slowing care delivery or overwhelming clinical teams.

Emplify Health led with a blended, multi-modal education strategy grounded in real clinical workflows. In-person training, simulations, microlearning, and self-paced resources were tailored to the unique needs of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals across inpatient, ambulatory, emergency, procedural, and ancillary settings. The foundation of this approach was a strong hybrid and self-directed learning model that embedded education directly into Epic.

Learning objectives:

  1. Assess how a blended, hybrid learning strategy can be scaled enterprise-wide to support an Epic-to-Epic consolidation, using adoption, engagement, and reach metrics across roles, departments, and care settings.
  2. Identify practical strategies for aligning education, informatics, and experience data to continuously refine EHR education and improve clinician readiness during change. 
  3. Evaluate the impact of workflow-embedded, self-directed learning on EHR satisfaction and experience, using Arch Collaborative survey data to compare outcomes for clinicians who engage with embedded education versus those who do not.
